FEATHER Project showcased at the 4th AMPP Italy conference & expo in Genova

Tuhin Das represented OCAS NV (ArcelorMittal Global R&D Ghent) and the FEATHER project consortium at the 4th International Conference & Expo of the AMPP Italy Chapter, held in Genova, Italy, from 9–12 June 2026. Tuhin Das's talk addressed the interaction between hydrogen and microstructure, based on gas and electrochemical permeation testing of flat and long steel products developed within the project. These findings were presented alongside mechanical test results obtained under high-pressure hydrogen conditions, contributing to advanced screening methods that support the performance and safety of high-strength steels for hydrogen applications. Project Partners The FEATHER consortium brings together the [...]

FEATHER Project partners meet in Metz for third semestrial project meeting

On 13–14 May, partners of the FEATHER project, coordinated by OCAS NV, gathered at the premises of ACM ABS Centre Métallurgique in Metz, France, for the project's third semestrial meeting. Progress Update Several candidate high-strength steel grades have already been designed and produced. As a next step, their resistance to hydrogen embrittlement will be evaluated through laboratory-scale testing. Further updates on the project's progress will follow. FEATHER consortium thank ACM ABS Centre Métallurgique for hosting the meeting. Project Partners The FEATHER consortium brings together the following partners: CEA-Liten, Faber Industrie, Fraunhofer IWM, and ACM ABS Centre Métallurgique, along with [...]

FEATHER Project advances metallurgical concept development for hydrogen storage steels

In the framework of the European Union Hydrogen Strategy, the FEATHER project is pioneering the development of an advanced steel solution for next-generation hydrogen cylinders, designed to improve hydrogen storage and mobility. Progress update &  next steps The metallurgical concept development for flat products, coordinated by OCAS, has resulted in the successful design and development of quench & tempered (Q&T) steel concepts using in-house pilot facilities. These concepts have now been handed over to project partners for mechanical characterization in hydrogen environments. The project will next evaluate hydrogen–microstructure interactions to further enhance the safety and performance of the developed [...]

FEATHER Project presents latest results at SteelyHydrogen Conference 2025

The FEATHER project, funded by the EU RFCS programme (Grant Agreement No 101112471), presented its latest results at the Steely Hydrogen Conference 2025. Steely Hydrogen 2025 provided an opportunity to engage with industry leaders, academics, and innovators shaping the future of clean hydrogen. The discussions held during the conference underlined the importance of collaboration in driving steel innovation forward. The FEATHER project thanks the conference organisers, partners, and all attendees of its session, and looks forward to building on these connections in the project's continued progress. Project Partners The FEATHER consortium brings together the following partners: CEA-Liten, Faber Industrie, [...]

FEATHER Project presents at ASTM 2025 Conference on hydrogen in materials

During the first week of June 2025, Tuhin Das represented the FEATHER project and its partners at the ASTM 2025 Conference on Hydrogen in Materials in La Rochelle, France. Tuhin Das's talk addressed metallurgical developments and hydrogen–microstructure interaction analysis for flat products developed within the project. In-depth evaluation of hydrogen–microstructure interactions, alongside the target mechanical properties, supports further advances in performance and safety. Further updates on the project's progress will follow. The FEATHER project thanks ASTM International and conference co-chairs Jamaa Bouhattate and Salim Brahimi for hosting a global forum that stimulated discussion, exchange of ideas, and collaboration on [...]
